I really enjoyed doing this and found the layering of different colours to build the skin tone was a useful lesson, more satisfying than just reaching for a ready made skin tone. I used Faber Castell Pitt pastels and Stabilo CarbOthello pencils for the skin and Unison stick pastels for the background. For me I found the background was more difficult than the ballerina because I’ve always been more comfortable with tight detail, too much freedom frightens me, I want to keep reigning it in. But it’s good to keep challenging yourself. On reflection I feel as though I may have overworked the background, something for me to consider for next time. Thank you Sue for an excellent tutorial, loved it.

SUE, you certainly know how to push us out of our comfort zone! Fabulous tutorial of the ballerina.
Used @mi-Tientes touch as it was the only light grey I had. Wasn’t too keen as the pastel pencil seemed to rub straight off.
I’m going to try this tutorial again on pastelmat to see if I can get it better. And oh those hands …. 😂.
    Thanks again Sue!
