Thanks to Sue Kerrigan-Harris for this beautiful tutorial. I haven’t had a chance to complete the task because we are still in the midst of decorating. I had 3 pieces of grey Pastelmat which I had used to try out colours and blending so during the live Zoom meeting I thought that I would try to follow Sue as she worked. I quickly applied gouache to the scraps in the morning without removing the existing colours, then worked along with the demonstration. The crocus is still a WIP but I have been inspired to paint some of my own garden flowers using this technique. My most favourite tutorial so far thank you Sue it shows how versatile Pastelmat can be.

Sue, you’re a great teacher because I always learn something from your tutorials even if the subject isn’t one I’d normally chose to do!
I’ve Just finished the spring flowers tutorial, right up my street, I don’t do flowers nearly often enough 😊. The surfaces were quite experimental, in another group I recently had a conversation regarding cheap white gesso v quality version which the poster said had more tooth and we also discussed adding pumice powder. Adding some pumice did make it nicer to pastel on, but it would be much better suited to something looser. They’re all coloured with gouache, the snowdrops I started with black gesso mix applied with a knife.
